3 Reasons NOT to Use the Grindr Dating App

Grindr is probably the most well-known hookup app for gay men. If you belong to the gay community there is no way you haven't heard about Grindr or used it at least once. Almost every gay man in North America has downloaded and tried this hookup app at least once. Even though it is huge in popularity, it still has its disadvantages. Let's take a look at three reasons why you should stay away from Grindr.

1. Fake Profiles

Among the millions of profiles, there is a large number that are fake. If you play around a bit you will encounter a ton of them. The people behind those profiles could be many, from scammers or homophobic pranksters to just plain old spammers. It would be awesome if Grindr's developers would do something about it but as it seems it is out of their reach for now. If you want to protect yourselves from those fake profiles it would be wise to choose an app that protects its database much better than Grindr. Many apps put their members through a rigorous screening process.

2. Ads Display

Since Grindr charges no fee for its services they have to make money somehow. The way they do that is through advertisements. In our opinion, this is very confusing and sometimes can be misleading. It is far better to pay a fee and enjoy a clean environment than battling to avoid those ads. Plus, the fact that the app is completely free attracts the scammers that can create fake profiles easily.

3. Strictly Oriented Towards Casual Hookups

If you are the type that wants to have some simple and quick fun then Grindr is the perfect app for you. But if you believe that the time to settle down has come and you are looking for a serious and long-term relationship Grindr is absolutely useless. The lack of insightful profiles doesn't present the opportunity to find an actual, meaninful relationship. If you find yourselves at that stage of your life you should probably choose another LGBTQ app.

If you search online, you'll find a range of mixed Grindr reviews. Ranging from rave reviews to awful ones. It really depends on each individual's tastes and what he is looking for. If you do decide to use the app, make an effort to distinguish the real members from the fakes.
